Values

Liberation Learning is committed to celebrating and expanding human rights, which are based on the following values:
- Respect for all
- Dignity for all
- Sanctity of human life
Human rights are derived from the belief that all persons are born equally worthy of respect and dignity, and that individual human life is sacred. These beliefs stem from both religious and secular origins. The values are shared by many faiths, across cultures. Economic human rights stem from these values. Because we value respect, dignity and sanctity of human life we create and sustain communities, economies and political systems that respect human rights, including economic human rights.
Human rights values are transformative and universal
Human rights values are transformative in that they go beyond the “what’s in it for me” mentality. If you believe that human life is sacred, you are compelled to ensure that the dignity and sanctity of all human beings is respected, regardless of how this will benefit you. The costs and gains of defending human life as sacred is a means, not an end, to realizing human rights values. We protect the rights of everyone because we believe this is the right – moral or ethical – thing to do.
Human rights values are also universal, crossing culture, language, race, class and all other barriers. All human life is sacred. All persons are born worthy of respect and dignity. The implications of these beliefs extend to all persons on an equitable basis. Human rights unite people for common purpose, and call on everyone to work for shared values and common vision.
